Brief History of the School

The School of Biblical Studies (SBS), Jos started on August 20th 1989, with a two-year diploma program in Bible. The pioneer staff were Terwase Avakaa, Clarence Wilson, and Solomon Aguh, the Director of the School. The primary focus of the SBS, Jos is to train people faithful men and women to serve the Lord and His Church. In this regard, the School admitted students from all around the continent of Africa and beyond. The School incorporated into the diploma program trade training, which was aimed at equipping the graduates as they went into the field. After the graduates of 1992, the program was however changed to a three-year diploma program in biblical studies as the need arose. In 1995, a two-year mission program was introduced with the purpose of training experienced preachers to go into mission field to evangelize Africa for Christ. By 1998, the need for more educated and effective manpower for the work of the ministry increased. The SBS then started preparing itself for a four-year BA program in Biblical Studies. This program received approval for affiliation to the University of Jos in August 2003. The also introduced a two year-year certificate in Bible and BA degree in ministry respectively in 2005
